Insufficient Funds Coverage

We understand that unforeseen emergencies or situations can happen that may cause your account to have insufficient funds when a check or electronic payment is presented. Don't worry, we've got you covered! We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways - through Overdraft Protection and/or Courtesy Pay.

Overdraft Protection Through The Transfer of Funds*

As an additional benefit of membership with APCU, we offer eligible members the opportunity to pay overdrafts on their APCU Checking Account from another APCU account. 

Fee To Use Service:

  • APCU will charge $5 per transfer to cover an overdraft transaction for personal accounts, or $10 per transfer to cover an overdraft transaction for business accounts.

How To Opt-In:

  • Please click here to authorize APCU to transfer funds from another APCU account in the event of an overdraft on your APCU Checking Account [choose up to 4 (four) transfer account options]

Courtesy Pay*

Courtesy Pay is a discretionary service that under certain circumstances, may allow APCU to pay an item presented for payment against your Checking Account in the event that you do not have adequate funds in the account to cover the transaction.

What Transactions Are Covered?

As a benefit of membership with APCU, your APCU Checking Account is automatically protected with Courtesy Pay in the event of the following types of transactions:

  • Checks, in-person withdrawals, and other transactions made using your Checking Account number
  • Automatic Clearing House transactions
  • Automatic bill payments
  • Account To Account Transfers
  • Popmoney® payments**

Additional Transaction Coverage:

In addition to covering checks and other transactions made using your Checking Account number as well as automatic bill payments, you can also authorize Courtesy Pay to cover the additional transaction types listed below, by clicking here.

  • ATM transactions
  • Point-of-sale transactions
  • Apple Pay® transactions**

Eligibility Requirements:

Courtesy Pay is a discretionary service available to individual and jointly owned personal checking accounts in good standing. This service may not be offered to members due to low credit scores, previous abuse of the service, etc. The following accounts are not eligible for Courtesy Pay:

  • Business accounts
  • Estate accounts
  • Minor accounts (under the age of 18)
  • New accounts (opened 30 days or less)
  • Non-profit accounts
  • Organizational accounts
  • Trust accounts
  • Accounts with bad addresses
  • Accounts with a deceased primary member
  • Accounts with fraudulent activity
  • Accounts with bankruptcies, levies, or garnishments
  • Accounts in bad standing
    • Overdrawn accounts (31 days or more)
    • Accounts with delinquent loans (31 days or more)

To maintain eligibility for this service, you must repay the overdraft amount within 32 days of Courtesy Pay service usage.

Coverage Limit:

  • A coverage limit up to $500 will be set up for you as long as your APCU account(s) are in good standing and you have no delinquent loans with APCU.

Fee To Use Service:

  • APCU will charge you a fee up to $32 each time we pay an overdraft.
  • There is a total fee limit of $160 per day that we can charge you for overdrawing your account.

* Business accounts are not eligible for Courtesy Pay, but may be eligible for Overdraft Protection. APCU pays overdrafts at our discretion. This means we do not guarantee we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction when there is not enough money available in your checking or designated overdraft protection accounts to cover the item. For example, we may not pay overdrafts when you are in default on a loan with APCU or your account is otherwise not in good standing. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined. We will charge you a fee of up to $32 each time we pay an overdraft transaction. APCU will not charge you a fee if you overdraw your APCU account by $5 or less. Repayment of the overdraft amount is required within 32 days to maintain eligibility for this service. If you have additional overdraft items during this time, the account still must be brought to a positive balance on or before the 32nd day from the date of the initial overdraft item. Deposits received by APCU during the 32 days will be applied first to your overdrawn Checking Account balance.
