Center Parc Credit Union

Our Story

Our Storied History Meets a Bright and Exciting Future.

As a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative, providing our members first-class service has always been our priority. Our members’ needs and financial well-being come first. They always have. They always will.

Our storied beginnings as Georgia’s oldest credit union began in 1922, with Atlanta Postal Office employee, Claude M. Harrell, reading an article in Colliers Magazine about Boston businessman and philanthropist Edward Filene and his establishment of a new kind of cooperative financial institution: the credit union. Mr. Harrell believed a credit union’s emphasis on people helping people could help improve the financial well-being of postal employees in Georgia. He led the effort to gain legislative support for the necessary laws that would allow the establishment of a not-for-profit financial institution. In 1925, the laws passed and APCU was chartered.

Over the years, APCU’s assets have grown from an initial investment of $2,505 to over $2.4 billion and today, we’re one of the largest credit unions in the country – serving more than 102,000 members nationwide.

In 2020, APCU announced the creation of a new division of the organization. Focused on reaching and serving communities across Georgia – Center Parc Credit Union gives APCU the opportunity to more actively reach out to the individuals in the communities that do not have a postal service qualification. Center Parc members will experience the same great service that APCU has always provided along with much more engagement in the local community.

In June 2023, we broke ground on our new 100,000-square-foot headquarters on a 10.5-acre site in south Atlanta. The new, state-of-the-art facility features contemporary touches and member-centric spaces to facilitate a range of convenient services, as well as advanced technology to help meet the diverse needs of our members.

In addition, a full-service branch will offer extended hours, dedicated spaces for financial consultations, state-of-the-art ATMs, and advanced digital banking capabilities. The headquarters also will incorporate enhanced security technology. In keeping with our commitment to employee development and work culture, the design also features a dedicated training center and recreation areas and room for additions to accommodate further growth.
